Ch 1 Test: States of matter, mass and volume - mon dec 14
The test covers Chapter 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. Here are the topics to focus on:
- Know and understand the definitions for the following terms: phase, mass, volume
- Be able to recognize solids, liquids and gases from the particle model diagrams
- Know the characteristics of each state of matter in terms of the bond strength, volume, shape, energy
- Know the names for the different phase changes (ex: gas to liquid is condensation)
- Be able to read a phase change graph (like on p. 10 in the workbook)
- Know at what temperature ice melts/freezes, and at what temperature water boils
- Know what tools are used and what units of measurement are used for mass
- Know which units are appropriate for different objects. Ex: a spoon would be g, a plane would be tons
- Be able to read a triple beam balance to provide the mass of an object
- Know what tools are used and what units of measurement are used for volume
- Know to measure the volume of a regular shaped object, a liquid, an irregular solid object
